Normal Human is a Kansas City design and screen-printing maker and retail shop in the East Crossroads, hand-printing original “common goods for uncommon people” — KC- and regional-themed apparel and housewares — and curating other local brands alongside its own line.123
Description
Normal Human is a design and small-batch screen-printing company that hand-prints apparel and housewares in-house, operating a flagship retail shop and studio in Kansas City’s East Crossroads at 1815 McGee Street.13 Its house tagline is “Common Goods for Uncommon People,” and the shop sells original, handmade screen prints on apparel and home goods.2
The brand is built on regionally rooted, original designs. Among its recurring motifs are a Missouri state outline formed from archery arrows (a nod to the state’s Native American history), a “Stateline” design, wheat-and-stars artwork paired with the letters “K” and “C,” and an “Ad Astra” design for Kansas-state pride.4 Beyond its own line, the shop functions as a design hub and curator of other local brands, stocking makers such as Maker Goods, Browning Co. Candles, Owl + Mouse Textiles, Basement Soap, Sandlot Goods, and KC Beard Co.3
The shop offers clothing (t-shirts, sweaters, jackets) plus accessories including hats, bags, and jewelry, all locally designed and produced or curated.13 Reviews on Yelp updated as recently as February 2026 describe an easy-going owner and praise the Kansas City merchandise.1
Ownership and history
Normal Human was founded by Dan Mahaney and Pat Egger.4 By the founders’ own account in an April 2014 interview, the operation had been running for about three years at that point — placing its start around 2011.4
The business has relocated several times within the metro. It began in downtown Mission, Kansas, then crossed the state line to Westport (827 Westport Road) in 2014, with Mahaney citing Mission’s lack of pedestrian traffic as a limitation for retail.4 It has since settled at its current East Crossroads location, 1815 McGee Street, Kansas City, MO 64108, where it operates as Normal Human LLC.15
