Reviewers name the miso salad, crab rangoon, vegetable tempura, a sweet-potato roll and an avocado-peanut roll among the house favorites, and single out lunch specials as the value play.¹³ Restaurantji aggregates 236 reviews at 4.0 stars with fresh reviews in June and July 2026, and its summary line is that the place “evokes fond memories of dining in Japan.”³ Yelp lists 274 reviews and 353 photos as of May 2026.⁴ The site offers a standing carryout incentive — free deep-fried gyoza on orders over $50 — and routes orders to a Menufy storefront.¹⁵

Ownership and history

Oishi’s Instagram bio dates the business: “Serving quality sushi and hibachi in the Shawnee, KS area since October 2016.”⁶ The Facebook page’s handle, “oishiinc,” suggests the operating entity is a corporation named Oishi Inc. or similar; the Kansas Secretary of State record has not been pulled.⁷

The owners have not been named in any press found. Customer reviews aggregated by Restaurantji refer to the proprietors as “Suzy and Chen,” described as “known for their kindness and knowledge,” which is the only ownership reference on the record and is treated here as provisional.³ No article in the Johnson County Post, The Pitch, KC Magazine or The Kansas City Star about the restaurant was found. What the space was before October 2016 is not established.

The hours have narrowed since the Chamber listing was written: that record shows lunch Monday through Saturday and dinner seven days, while the restaurant’s own site and current aggregators show the restaurant closed on Mondays.²¹³

The site’s /menu path serves the home page, not a menu. First-party hours, address and cuisine facets were re-confirmed against the live site on this pass and match the infobox.

Status: unverified. The restaurant’s only first-party menu is its Menufy ordering page, which loads by script and could not be read on 2026-08-29; no menu PDF or images are published on the site. Third-party menus (Grubhub, Uber Eats, Menupix) exist but are not used per Registry rules.
