Pierpont’s at Union Station is a women-owned fine-dining steakhouse housed in the historic women’s and children’s waiting rooms of Kansas City’s landmark Union Station, operating since 1999.¹

Description

Pierpont’s at Union Station occupies a dramatic three-story footprint inside Kansas City’s restored Union Station, with approximately sixty percent of the restaurant’s space in original 1914 historical rooms — the women’s waiting room, children’s waiting room, and women’s smoking lounge.² Named for railroad baron John Pierpont Morgan, the restaurant combines the grandeur of the Beaux-Arts terminal with a menu anchored in prime aged steaks and daily-fresh seafood.³ It is widely cited as one of the most architecturally distinctive restaurant settings in Kansas City, featuring one of the most spectacular bars in the city, multiple dining rooms, and a wine cellar private dining level.⁴²

The menu maintains the “family tradition” established with its sister restaurant, Kansas City’s legendary Hereford House — prime beef, carefully aged and prepared, alongside fresh seafood, and an award-winning wine program recognized by Wine Spectator.³² Hours run Tuesday through Sunday with brunch service added on Saturday and Sunday mornings, reflecting the venue’s role as both a destination dining room and an event and entertaining space.¹

Ownership and history

Union Station reopened in November 1999 following a major restoration, and Pierpont’s opened as one of the anchor tenant restaurants at that time under Rod Anderson and the Anderson Restaurant Group — the same group that owned the Hereford House steakhouse chain.³ The Anderson Restaurant Group operated both concepts through the early 2010s.

Following Rod Anderson’s 2012 federal arson conviction related to the 2008 fire that destroyed the downtown Hereford House location, Mary Holland and Camellia Hill acquired the Anderson Restaurant Group’s restaurant portfolio in 2012.⁵ Holland became owner and operator of both the Hereford House locations and Pierpont’s at Union Station, and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association confirmed Holland’s ownership as of 2022.⁴ Holland holds a BBA from Texas Christian University and an MBA from The University of Dallas; her deep civic presence in KC restaurant industry leadership is documented.⁵⁴ Her specific KC-roots background (born/raised) is not confirmed in available sources.

Pierpont’s has operated continuously at Union Station for over 25 years, making it one of the longest-tenured anchor restaurant tenants in the building.
