Description

Pirtle Winery occupies a former Evangelical Lutheran church built by German immigrants in 1867.1 The building holds an indoor cellar with a wine bar on the first floor and a tasting room and gift shop on the second, with a vine-covered garden adjoining. Production and bottling happen in a separate building across the street.1

The winery describes itself as “a small, quality-oriented winery.”1 It is known regionally for mead alongside grape wine — a product line unusual among Missouri wineries of its vintage and one that predates the current mead revival by decades.

The German-immigrant church building is not incidental. Weston’s 19th-century commercial and religious building stock is the town’s principal draw, and Pirtle’s reuse of it is of a piece with the Weston Brewing Company cellars a few blocks away — both are working businesses inside preserved German-American infrastructure rather than museum pieces.

Ownership and history

Founded in 1978 in Weston and family-owned and operated by the Pirtle family since.1 The 1978 founding places it among the earliest wineries of Missouri’s post-Prohibition wine revival, which followed the state’s first modern bonded wineries of the 1960s–70s.

Independence: No corporate parent, investor group, or out-of-state owner identified. Presented on its own site as a small family operation.

Status: pending. No first-party wine list or price sheet captured. Wine and mead lists should be transcribed directly from pirtlewinery.com on a menu pass.
