Description
Point & Flat BBQ is a one-man barbecue operation built around brisket; the name refers to the point and the flat, the two muscles that make up a whole packer brisket. Kansas City magazine’s January 2023 profile describes a stick-burning pit run on hickory and oak, with Van Horn drawing on Texas technique and on local pitmasters Tyler Harp and Justin Easterwood — salt-and-pepper rubs, overnight smokes, and rendered trimmings used as tallow to baste briskets in the wrap.1 In his own account to VoyageKC, the brisket is “salt, pepper, and garlic rubbed. Then, it was smoked to a certain temperature and finished in a bath of beef tallow in a foil wrap.”2
The business has no storefront. It works as a residency-style pop-up inside brewery taprooms, with the menu changing week to week around the brisket — ribs, pastrami and sausages rotating through, plus a weekly fusion item such as banh mi sandwiches or street tacos, and sides including brisket beans and street corn.2 KCUR’s December 2025 roundup of newer Kansas City barbecue described Point & Flat as “a one-man pop-up operation with juicy burnt ends, briskets, and ribs,” found at Discourse Brewery, Friction Beer and Limitless Brewing.3
Point & Flat has also been booked into the Lenexa Public Market’s Rotating Table — the city-run program that hands The Kitchen space on the market’s mezzanine to a different pop-up on the last weekend of each month from March through October. The market’s own event listings scheduled Point & Flat BBQ for 2026-07-10/11 and for 2026-08-21/23.4 The Rotating Table is a market program rather than a tenancy, so this does not make Point & Flat a Lenexa Public Market merchant.
Ownership and history
Quentin Van Horn owns and runs the pit.12 He spent 18 years in men’s clothing retail before being furloughed during the pandemic; offered his job back on worse terms, he left for car sales, where he bought a smoker and began cooking barbecue — including, by his own telling, an undercooked first Easter brisket.12 He began cooking at a car dealership alongside his brother, then partnered with Marco Lopez to take the operation into breweries in 2022, opening at River Bluff Brewing in Kansas City’s River Market; the public debut was a First Friday in August.12 Once the pop-ups became consistent he went full time.2
Van Horn characterized the brewery arrangement plainly in Kansas City magazine: “They don’t charge me anything, I don’t charge anything. I come and bring the fire.”1
“ — Marco Lopez’s current role, if any, is not established beyond the 2022 launch; no business registration, brick-and-mortar plan, or Van Horn residency/birthplace detail was located. Recorded as an owner watchlist item.
Independent, not a house brand. Point & Flat is Van Horn’s own operation appearing as a guest at venues owned by others — breweries, and the City of Lenexa’s market program.14

Pricing
Confirmed absence of a recoverable first-party price list (checked 2026-08-13). Checked: the three candidate domains pointandflatbbq.com, www.pointandflatbbq.com and pointflatbbq.com, none of which resolve; the business’s Instagram profile page, which exposes no menu or price content to logged-out fetching; its Facebook page, which redirected (HTTP 302) rather than serving content; and the Lenexa Public Market’s Rotating Table listings, which announce dates only.54 No online-ordering storefront was located. Aggregator listings (Yelp, Yahoo Local, Roadtrippers and similar) were not used for prices. A third-party corporate-campus food-truck listing page hosted by Shamrock Trading Corporation surfaced in search; it is not a first-party surface and was not used. No prices are stated on this page.
