Description
Topp’d Pizza + Salads occupies a stall inside the Lenexa Public Market, the year-round indoor food hall on the bottom floor of Lenexa City Hall at 8750 Penrose Ln.12 The market’s own merchant page describes the offer as “a piping-hot, made-to-order, high-quality, ultra-fresh pizza prepared in under five minutes,” with fresh salads, grinder sub sandwiches and a selection of small plates alongside it, and states that “all dough, sauces, toppings and dressings are made from scratch in house.”2 The stall also operates the market’s full bar, pouring local beer and cider on tap with seasonal options.2
Owner Chad Talbott framed the concept in the market’s own “Meet the Chef” feature as fast-casual by design: “The original goal was fast service, fast-casual, like Chipotle for pizza. Come in, grab your food, and it’s extremely fresh within like four minutes.”3 Topp’d’s own website states the same commitments in its house voice — “we grill our own meats, make our own sauces, dressings, and dough from scratch every single day… no microwaves. nothing frozen” — and describes ingredients as “locally and responsibly sourced whenever possible.”1
Topp’d is one of the Lenexa Public Market’s original merchants. Talbott had opened the first Topp’d Pizza + Salads off Rainbow Boulevard near the University of Kansas Medical Center; Lenexa city staff, recruiting merchants for the then-unbuilt market, approached him, and the Lenexa stall opened with the market itself in September 2017.3 He recalled an oven failing on opening day, forcing a four-hour shutdown, and the community turnout that followed anyway.3
As of the market’s current roster, Topp’d shares the hall with african-dream-cuisine, cardboard-corner-cafe, homestead-kitchen-and-bakery, kc-doner, Mr. D’s Coffee (a concept of mr-ds-donuts), saap-saap-noodles and sohailas-kitchen, plus the market-run Rotating Table pop-up program.4
Ownership and history
Chad Talbott is the chef and owner; the site’s copyright line names the corporate entity “topp’d pizza, inc.”31 The market’s feature interview traces his path: he began working in pizza as a teenager, recognized in college that the restaurant industry could be a career, and worked up through a pizza chain from restaurant manager to district manager to corporate training director before buying a restaurant franchise of his own. After roughly five years running that small group of restaurants he returned to pizza with the fast-casual Topp’d concept.3 “ — the chain he trained under and the franchise he bought are not named in the interview, and his Kansas City-area residency is not separately documented; recorded as an owner watchlist item, not a tier question.
The original KU Med-area location off Rainbow Boulevard is not listed on the company’s current hours-and-location page, which shows the Lenexa Public Market address alone and refers to “our store location” in the singular.1 No first-party or press statement announcing that location’s closure was located. “
Independent tenant, not a house brand. The Lenexa Public Market is a City of Lenexa facility, and Topp’d is a separately incorporated business recruited into it as a merchant — the market’s own account describes city staff approaching an already-operating Topp’d restaurant and the company opening a stall when the market opened.3 Topp’d maintains its own domain, its own Toast ordering storefront, its own phone number, email and social accounts, and its own catering program.1

Disputes
Friday and Saturday hours. The company’s own website gives Mon–Sat 11 a.m.–9 p.m. and Sun 11 a.m.–8 p.m.1 The Lenexa Public Market’s merchant schedule gives Topp’d Fri–Sat 11 a.m.–10 p.m., matching the market’s own extended weekend hours, with the rest of the week identical.4 Both are first-party. The market schedule is the more recently maintained surface; the company’s Google Sites page still carries a 2025 copyright line. Unresolved — call ahead for weekend closing time.
