Description
Ragazza Food & Wine is a fresh-Italian restaurant and wine bar occupying a cozy corner spot at 4301 Main Street in Kansas City, within walking distance of both Westport and the Country Club Plaza.23 The kitchen builds its menu on homemade Italian dishes influenced by Southern-Italian family recipes, with house specialties including a family-recipe Meatball Grande appetizer, Italian sausage and artichoke soup, chicken saltimbocca, lasagna, and chicken piccata.13 The pasta program features classics such as clam linguine and rigatoni bolognese, alongside gluten-free pasta options.17
Beyond food, Ragazza operates a full bar pouring Italian wines and house cocktails such as the Sicilian Sunshine, Sgroppino, and the Ragazza Bellini.1 The dining room is a fireplace-warmed corner space, and the restaurant has positioned itself as a neighborhood Midtown destination served by the KC Streetcar’s Main Street extension.23
Ownership and history
Ragazza was founded by Laura Norris, who credits her mother and great aunt for teaching her to cook the Southern-Italian family recipes the menu is built on.13 The restaurant first opened in 2013 in a small eight-table room on Westport Road, where over roughly five years it grew into what local press described as a Westport institution.456
Constrained by the tiny Westport kitchen, Norris found an opportunity in early 2018 to expand into a larger corner building at 4301 Main Street — the former site of a Nature’s Own grocery — and aimed to open there as her original lease ended.56 A series of building-related delays kept Ragazza closed for nearly six months during the transition; the relocated restaurant served its first dinner at the Main Street location in March 2019, bigger and able to accommodate more fresh food, wine, and clientele.56
