Description

Rajmahal Indian Cuisine and Bar serves North Indian food — biryanis, tandoori chicken wings, and curries — in a sit-down setting at the Prairiefire shopping center off 135th Street and Nall Avenue in Overland Park.¹ The Prairiefire location, opened in 2025, pairs the kitchen’s traditional cooking with a bar program of craft cocktails and “bar bites,” refined service, and open-air patio dining, marketed as a “fine dining” elevation of the original neighborhood restaurant under the tagline “New vibe. Same heart. Always flavorful.”²³

Ownership and history

The restaurant was founded by chef Raj Rana, who was born in Uttarakhand, India, trained in Bombay’s restaurant kitchens, and worked in professional kitchens in New Orleans before moving to the Kansas City area in 2015.³⁴ He opened the original Rajmahal in Olathe (118 S Clairborne Rd) around 2015, where it became a local favorite over roughly a decade.⁴ In 2025 the family relocated the restaurant to Prairiefire in Overland Park, citing impending construction from the I-35 and Santa Fe overhaul project near the Olathe site; the Olathe location subsequently closed.⁴ The business is family-owned and operated, with Raj’s son Bijendra Rana among the operators of the new location.⁴
