Description

Revocup Coffee Roasters is an Ethiopian-founded specialty coffee company that roasts its own beans and runs a small chain of Kansas City-area coffeehouses.107 The Registry’s primary location is the Lenexa shop at 17180 W 87th St, a neighborhood café serving locally roasted single-origin and blended coffees alongside espresso drinks, pastries, scones, smoothies, and bread loaves — many of the baked goods made in-house.12 Hours at Lenexa run roughly Mon–Fri 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Sat–Sun 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.1

The brand is built around a quality-plus-humanity mission: Revocup sources single-origin, ethically produced beans (with a strong Ethiopian emphasis) and directs a portion of every sale — reported as ten cents per cup and one dollar per bag — to the Revocup Foundation, which supports Ethiopian coffee-farming communities and has donated more than 500,000 books and built libraries in those regions.101112

Ownership and history

Revocup was founded in 2008 in Overland Park, Kansas, by Habte Mesfin and family — Ethiopian natives who grew up in coffee-growing regions.1013 Habte immigrated to the United States in 1985 and worked in finance, but maintained his ties to Ethiopia’s coffee-farming communities; a 2007 return visit, during which he found conditions had worsened in the 25 years since he had left, prompted the founding of Revocup as a mission-driven roaster — “great coffee should benefit everyone, from the farmer to the customer.”10 The company’s Ethiopian roots and Kansas origin were documented in national Ethiopian-diaspora coverage as early as 2009.13

From its first Overland Park shop, Revocup expanded into a small KC-area chain (Lenexa, Leawood/Town Center, downtown Kansas City) and later into the St. Louis metro.79
