Sagebrush is an owner-operated cocktail bar at 1639 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, KS 66103, in the Rosedale neighborhood. It is the second concept from Christopher Ciesiel and Cristin Llewellyn, the couple behind The Campground, and trades under The Campground LLC. The room is a small, high-desert-inspired bar — roughly 25 seats, hand-troweled adobe walls, a J-shaped mahogany bar and a neon installation — built around agave and sugarcane spirits, with a drink list described first-party as “high quality sounds and beverages.” It opened in 2024 and is open as of 2026-08-13. Tier 1 — locally owned, owner-operated, both concepts in the metro.1234

Description

Sagebrush is a small room — IN Kansas City puts it at roughly half the size of The Campground, with about 25 bar seats — inside a white clapboard building with no sign, next door to Garden House, a coffee shop run by Jordan and Emily Fox; the two businesses share a back room. The interior was a largely do-it-yourself build: artist Jennifer Walker mixed a custom wall color and hand-troweled the adobe finish, Modern Lark built the dark mahogany J-shaped bar, Element Ten made the neon piece over the bar (based on rock formations and geodes) that washes the room pinkish-red at night, and Logan Clark of Pilgrim Creative did the branding. Arched nichos cut into the wall hold candles; palo santo burns; cacti stand in the corner.24

The drink program is agave- and sugarcane-forward — mezcal, tequila, Mexican rums — and deliberately lighter, fruitier, fizzier and funkier than the classics-driven list at The Campground. About ten cocktails run at a time. The house signature, also called the Sagebrush, is cotija-washed Tesoro 55 Espadín with guava liqueur, house-made orange sorbet and lime, clarified with milk, double-strained, kegged and carbonated; The Pitch prices it at $16. A Dirty Margarita from the bar was featured in Imbibe No. 122 (July/August 2026).3241

There is no kitchen. Lil’ Chingu serves dinner in the space Friday and Saturday 5–9pm (see casita-de-lil-chingu), and Baker’s Allowance runs a pop-up every third Wednesday. Seating is first come, first serve — no reservations.15

Ownership and history

Christopher Ciesiel and Cristin Llewellyn, who are married and who opened The Campground, announced Sagebrush in June 2023 as a bar about half the size of their first venue, focused on agave distillates and Mexican rums, in a building whose neighboring tenant (then Foxtrot Studio and Café) was rebranding into a garden-house concept selling southwestern plants. Ciesiel described the project as “kind of what we envisioned The Campground being from day one.” The target then was end of 2023; the bar in fact opened in 2024 — IN Kansas City covered it as new on Nov 1, 2024 — and the first-party site now presents The Campground as “our other concept … Sagebrush’s bigger sister.” The website footer names The Campground LLC as the copyright holder.321

The exact opening date is not stated in any source read this pass — . Square footage, seat count beyond IN Kansas City's "approximately 25 bar seats," and any lease or landlord detail are likewise undocumented — .
