Sakae Sushi is owned by Sam Hoang, a longtime Kansas City–area sushi chef, in partnership with his son Peter Hoang.¹ Before opening Sakae, Sam owned and operated Wasahi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in the Northland for many years, building a multi-decade reputation in the metro’s Japanese-dining scene.¹ When Sam was ready to open Sakae in Parkville, Peter — who had moved to Chicago to become executive chef at Kamehachi — returned home to work side by side with his father at the new family restaurant.¹
