Seven Stories is an independent bookstore at 12115 Johnson Dr in Shawnee — opened in November 2023 by Halley Vincent, who was 14 years old at the time, making it the only Asian-owned bookstore in Kansas or Missouri. Vincent, who grew up in Shawnee and was a Shawnee Mission North student at opening, founded the shop with a mission that every reader can feel represented. She had previously founded the Paws Up KC animal welfare nonprofit at age 8. The store moved to a larger ~400 sq ft space in late 2024 to accommodate growing demand.

Seven Stories is Halley Vincent’s independent bookstore at 12115 Johnson Dr in Shawnee — and one of the most remarkable business origin stories in the KC metro. Vincent was 14 years old and a Shawnee Mission North student when she opened the shop in November 2023, making Seven Stories the only Asian-owned bookstore in Kansas or Missouri. The mission was explicit from day one: a bookstore where every reader can feel represented, with curation centered on diverse voices and inclusive titles.

This was not Vincent’s first venture. She had already founded Paws Up KC, an animal welfare nonprofit, at age 8 — six years before opening the bookstore. The combination of entrepreneurial track record and community-representation mission drew substantial press at launch. Seven Stories grew quickly enough that Vincent relocated to a larger ~400 sq ft space on Johnson Dr in late 2024 to accommodate demand.
