Midtown Kansas City coffee shop and bakery at 3934 Main Street, opened April 2025 by Austin Morris and his wife in the former Enchanté space. The name comes from the Latin Soli Deo Gloria — “to God alone be the glory” — reflecting the owners’ Protestant faith. Morris retained Enchanté’s bakery team and pastries while building an elevated coffee program around beans from local roaster Chingu Coffee.123

Description

Soli Deo Coffee & Bakery is a Midtown Kansas City café occupying 3934 Main Street, the storefront formerly home to Enchanté. It serves barista espresso drinks and teas alongside a daily selection of bakery items — including quiche and rosewater croissants inherited from Enchanté — produced by the original bakery team that owner Austin Morris retained when he took over the space.24

The coffee program is the owners’ distinct addition: espresso beverages are built on beans from Chingu Coffee, a local roaster at 1201 W. 47th St.13 The owners describe Soli Deo as “a space for connection and reflection” intended to welcome “people from all walks of life.”5

The name is the Latin phrase Soli Deo Gloria — “to God alone be the glory” — and the concept is openly faith-rooted, reflecting the Protestant convictions of Morris and his wife.13

Enchanté opened roughly two years before its March 2025 closure under restaurateur Heather White, who continues to operate the nearby restaurants Tailleur and Cheval. Enchanté closed amid challenges including break-ins and disruption from KC Streetcar Main Street extension construction.2

Austin and his wife, who already owned the Kansas City wedding photography and video company Aventi Weddings, came to the business through their church, which had relocated next door to Enchanté. On learning the bakery was closing, Morris approached White with an acquisition proposal, which she accepted.3 He rebranded the space as Soli Deo, reopening on April 19, 2025, while preserving Enchanté’s aesthetic, pastry recipes, and bakery staff and adding an elevated coffee program.12 Morris has indicated plans to add outdoor seating following completion of the summer streetcar expansion.2
