Strange Days Brewing Co. is a River Market brewery in the historic former Muehlebach Brewing warehouse at 3rd & Oak, opened in January 2018 — known for limited-release hazy IPAs, psychedelic can art, and an international soccer-culture identity that has the taproom opening at 7am on Sundays for Premier League matches. Its Thursday trivia night runs weekly.

Description

Strange Days brews in a building that already made beer a century ago — the former Muehlebach Brewing warehouse — and wears an international identity unusual for a KC taproom: world-cuisine collaborations, soccer scarves, and the self-declared best room in town to watch the Premier League.12 The beer program leans limited-release hazies with distinctive psychedelic label art.3

The founders trace the brewery to Saturday and Sunday mornings spent homebrewing while watching European soccer — Howard, a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, sums it up as “we’re all soccer dorks.”3 That doubles as the business model: the taproom opens early for Premier League and Bundesliga matches. The nine-barrel system runs American, English, and Belgian styles alongside experiments the founders described at launch — an Asian-inspired saison, a black IPA, and a Mexican-inspired IPA — and the global bent shows up in one-off “world cuisine” beers like a Japanese black IPA with ginger, an Australian gold ale, and a 2018 World Cup run of country-themed brews (an England E.S.B., a Swiss chocolate stout, a Peruvian gose, a Moroccan mint witbier).43 The 4,500-square-foot space carries visible history: the founders’ landlord placed it in overhead photos of the original Muehlebach complex, and second-floor fire damage is attributed to the Schlitz era after Schlitz bought Muehlebach in the 1950s.4
