Description

Streats is the locally owned taco-and-ramen concept of Tony Gordon and Ashton Shelby. It began during the pandemic: Gordon, who had lost his job, paired with his longtime friend Shelby and the two started slinging tacos out of Gordon’s backyard. As demand grew they moved into the Crossroads Food Stop, a restaurant co-op, in 2022, and in November 2025 opened their own downtown brick-and-mortar at 1111 Petticoat Lane.¹²

The kitchen specializes in street tacos, birria tacos, and birria ramen, with a notably broad birria range — shrimp quesabirria tacos and shrimp birria quesadillas (both with consommé) and halal chicken tacos alongside the classic beef. Kansas City Magazine named Streats the city’s “Best Cheese Pull” for its generously melted quesabirria.²
