Taco Express is an owner-operated Mexican restaurant and taqueria at 6520 Independence Ave, Kansas City, MO 64125, at the far eastern end of the Independence Avenue corridor the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce markets as the Historic Northeast “International Marketplace.” The Northeast Kansas City Chamber’s own member directory lists the business at that address under the name Anna Galindo, and the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District publicly credited Galindo as a long-term chamber member in a November 2023 post carrying the restaurant’s address and phone. Northeast News placed it on its April 2026 “Northeast Taco Trail,” describing a house established in the early 2000s known for generous portions and meat “shaved from the trompo.” It is a storefront, not a truck. Taco Express occupies a storefront at 6520 Independence Ave, well east of the Historic Northeast’s Indian Mound and Scarritt Point core but firmly inside the commercial corridor the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District promote as Kansas City’s “International Marketplace.” The chamber’s member directory carries the listing with the 6520 address and the phone number (816) 920-5956.1

Northeast News, the corridor’s neighborhood paper since 1932, included the restaurant in its April 2026 “Northeast Taco Trail” round-up, which places it in the same stretch as Taqueria El Torito at 6126 Independence Ave and Acapulco Comida Mexicana at 5110. The paper describes a business “established in the early 2000s” with a loyal following built on generous portions and “shaved-from-the-trompo” meats, and characterizes it as a neighborhood staple for a quick lunch or family dinner.3 The paper had earlier grouped the restaurant into its Independence Avenue CID business round-ups as far back as January 2020, and named it again in a January 2026 list of corridor eateries alongside el-paso-del-norte, taqueria-mexico-kc, kc-tacos-and-wings and others.56

The restaurant’s own Facebook page describes it in Spanish as a “Restaurante Mexicano” where you can eat good tacos of different meats — asada, pastor, lengua — and lists dine-in, outdoor seating and in-store pickup, with a price range of $.4 Claims circulating on aggregator and auto-generated “restaurant” sites about specific dishes, hours and interior detail are not reproduced here; several such pages for this address (goto-where.com, wheree.com, novacircle.com, wanderboat.ai, restaurantjump.com) are machine-generated and are excluded by Registry policy.

Ownership and history

Anna Galindo is named as the business contact on the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s directory listing for Taco Express, whose description field carries her name and whose contact block carries the 6520 Independence Ave address and (816) 920-5956 phone.1 The Independence Avenue Community Improvement District corroborated the association in a Facebook post dated November 3, 2023, thanking “ANNA GALINDO for being a long-term Chamber member & a supporter of the Historic Northeast,” in a post whose body gives “Taco Express, 6520 Independence Ave, Kansas City, MO 64125, (816) 920-5956” and links the restaurant’s Facebook page.2

Founding year is not established to first-party standard. Northeast News says “established in the early 2000s”; no incorporation filing, licence record or first-party statement was located to fix a year.3 for a founding date and for whether Galindo is founder or a later owner. A widely circulated line describing the restaurant as a chamber member “since 2019” appears only in social-post excerpts whose underlying posts were not retrievable on this pass and is therefore not asserted here..

A KCMO business-licence search returned no record under this name or address; the city’s published licence-holder dataset was last refreshed 2026-01-15 and is visibly incomplete for restaurants on this corridor, so its silence is not evidence of anything.7

Name conflict (recorded, not resolved)

The Facebook page whose vanity URL is facebook.com/TacoExpressOfficial — the page linked by the Independence Avenue CID as the restaurant’s page, carrying the 6520 Independence Ave address and the (816) 920-5956 phone — now displays the name “La Marqueza taco.”4 Its archived post stream includes an April 2024 first-party post referring to the premises as “el taco express.”8 Separately, aggregator directories list a “La Marqueza” at 6514 Independence Ave with a different phone, (816) 241-9049, and an NEKC Chamber presentation deck from December 2024 lists “Marqueza” and “Taco Express” as separate member entries.9

Three readings are open and this page does not choose between them: (a) the business rebranded to La Marqueza and the chamber/press are lagging; (b) La Marqueza is an adjacent or affiliated business at 6514 whose operators also control the Taco Express Facebook page; (c) the Facebook page was renamed while the storefront trades under both names. — resolvable by a site visit reading the signage. The page is filed under Taco Express because that is the name the chamber directory, the CID and Northeast News all use as of 2026.

A second, older conflict: an August 2021 Northeast News item about an Avenue Angels responder places “the Taco Express” at 3616 Independence Avenue, several miles west.10 That storefront is occupied in 2026 by a different business, Taqueria Mix-T-Co.11 Whether 3616 was an earlier or second Taco Express location, or a reporting error, is unresolved..
