The store carries men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes, gifts, and accessories, with a footwear selection drawing on nationally recognized brands alongside a large assortment of local brands.¹² Brands stocked have included Charlie Hustle, Volcom, Element, RVCA, BB Dakota, Ben Sherman, Fred Perry, Jeffrey Campbell, Dr. Martens, Birkenstock, Converse, and Vans, and the shop also carries one of the larger selections of watches and sunglasses in the Midwest.¹

The Bunker is one of Westport’s long-tenured independent retailers, having operated at the same Broadway corner since 1997.¹²

Ownership and history

The Bunker opened its doors in 1997 in the Westport neighborhood, originally as a second location of the iconic Belmont Army Surplus of Chicago.² In 2004 the store became independent of Belmont Army, at which point its own online presence (the Bunkeronline) was launched.² Since that split the business has been “proudly independent and owned and operated by local Kansas City residents.”² The specific name of the current owner is not published in available public sources.
