The Clock Shop is a sixth-generation family clock- and watch-repair business founded in Kansas City in 1905, now operating in Independence, Missouri under fifth-generation owner Beth Woolsey and her son, sixth-generation clockmaker Christopher Hutson. ¹²³

Description

The Clock Shop is a family-owned horology business specializing in the repair and restoration of clocks and watches of all types and ages, with a particular focus on antique clocks. The shop also performs antique clock appraisal, tower-clock installation and maintenance, in-home service calls on grandfather clocks, and sells a range of clocks at its storefront.¹²

After roughly 70 years in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood (most recently at 6207 Oak Street), the business relocated to Independence, Missouri, re-opening at 17201 E US Highway 40, Suite 115 — about one mile west of Bass Pro, next to Tim’s Pizza.²³ The Independence shop welcomes walk-ins.²

Ownership and history

The Clock Shop traces its founding to 1905 in Kansas City, with the company’s stated mission of “the best service and quality products possible” and individual customer attention carried across more than a century of family ownership.¹² David Eldon Falke was the fourth-generation clockmaker and owner, becoming owner in 1993.¹² In 1996 Falke was appointed supervisor over the restoration of the clocks at Kansas City’s Union Station; the firm’s restoration credits also include the E. Howard lamppost clock mechanism and the Seth Thomas tower clock movement for Longview in Lee’s Summit (2004 and 2007).¹

Fifth-generation owner Beth Woolsey, who grew up in the shop and learned the trade from a young age, took ownership on February 15, 2014.¹ Her son, Christopher (Chris) Hutson, represents the sixth generation and has apprenticed in the business since 2021.¹³ The mother-son duo continued the longtime family shop through its 2024-era move from Brookside to Independence after the loss of their Kansas City lease.³

The shop’s official “About” page still references the original Brookside (6207 Oak Street) address; the Independence relocation is documented through local press, the Yelp/aggregator listings, and the shop’s Facebook page. ¹²³⁴
