The Corner Candleshop is a locally owned candle maker and shop in Brookside, roughly five minutes south of the Country Club Plaza, that has been handcrafting fragranced candles for over two decades.¹ Owner Lori Block hand-pours candles on-site in the back of the shop, and even named one of her signature scents “Brookside Bungalow” after the surrounding neighborhood.¹

The shop’s product range includes votives, tea lights, melting cubes, tins, jars, car fresheners, room sprays, and diffusers, with more than 175 fragrances to choose from, plus a custom pour service that lets customers turn any container of their own into a candle.² Candles are handcrafted in small batches using lead-free cotton wicks and clean-burning soy-blended wax.²

Ownership and history

The shop was founded in July 2003 by owner Lori Block, who has hand-poured specialty candles in the Brookside neighborhood ever since.² In a profile by the Brookside business association, Block described her path to entrepreneurship as lifelong — starting with selling Kool-Aid from her driveway at age five and moving through garage sales, vegetable stands, and a cookie-delivery business before business ownership became her calling.² She blends several exclusive scents available nowhere else and frames candle making as a craft: “Candle making is an art and we take it seriously.”² Block describes Brookside as “charming, eclectic,” with “kind people and a feeling of unity among neighbors, shoppers and business owners.”²
