The Local Table & Bar is a neighborhood bar and grill at 511 N. Main Street in downtown Grain Valley, opened June 2, 2025 by two local women, Amy Bates and Stephanie Tarantola, as a deliberate community room — “where strangers become friends one table at a time.” Double smash burgers on pretzel buns with candied “Main Street bacon” and beer cheese, a Missouri-style Philly, steak-or-chicken tacos, waffle fries loaded with brisket, weekend brunch from 9 a.m., music trivia on Saturdays and karaoke, live music and watch parties through the week. It was among the first of the roughly four dozen new businesses Grain Valley registered in 2025 as the city pushed to revive its Main Street.

Description

The Local sits on Main Street in Grain Valley’s small downtown, the historic strip along the railroad that the city has been working to repopulate.1 The owners’ framing is social before culinary: the site calls it “a community gathering space” for “live music and trivia or karaoke events” as much as a place to eat, and Bates told KSHB the point was to see people “coming together, they’re sitting at a table, they’re talking, they’re communicating.”21 The weekly rhythm, as posted in summer 2026, includes free-to-play music trivia every Saturday with prizes per round and a Sunday-night Love Island watch party with free drinks for the top two finishers.2 Weekend hours open at 9 a.m. for brunch, with a mimosa bar and a short list of breakfast shots.23

The menu is compact and burger-led. The double smash burgers — two smashed patties, served with a side — come as The Local (American cheese, “signature sauce”), the Main Street (pretzel bun, candied “Main Street bacon,” beer cheese), the North Side (avocado, cotija, pickled onions, chipotle mayo) and the Railroad (caramelized onions and mushrooms in parmesan sauce), with a 3 Piggies and a Baddie Patty rounding out the list.3 Handhelds include the MO Philly (steak, peppers, mushrooms, onions, provolone), a Turkey Avocado Melt on garlic bread, a grilled-chicken Caesar wrap and the black-bean-and-corn-salsa Zak’s Wrap; tacos come two to an order in chicken or steak, street-style or with street corn.3 Appetizers run from a charcuterie board and a chip trio to KC Loaded Wavy Fries topped with brisket and hand-breaded onion rings; reviewers single out the onion rings, the chicken tortilla soup and a pork tenderloin sandwich.34

Ownership and history

Amy Bates and Stephanie Tarantola are Grain Valley residents who, KSHB reported, “had harbored entrepreneurial aspirations individually before joining forces”; they “chose Main Street because Grain Valley is home” and because they had watched the city’s push to revive its downtown.1 Bates on that push: “I think downtown is really trying to grow. The mayor and committee are really trying to bring that small-town feel but still with growth, like still opportunities.”1 Tarantola told the station the community’s support was what kept them going.1 Whether either had prior restaurant or bar experience is not reported. A Grain Valley remodeling contractor operates under the Tarantola name, which may be a family connection to the build-out.5

The restaurant joined the Grain Valley Chamber of Commerce in spring 2025 (the chamber welcomed it publicly on May 1), held its ribbon-cutting on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 11 a.m., and opened to the public on Monday, June 2 with 11 a.m.–11 p.m. hours.67 Seven weeks in, KSHB found “steady business since opening in June, with lunch rushes becoming the norm,” and paired the story with Main Street Sweets, an ice-cream shop that opened a few doors away the same month; Grain Valley had registered 48 new businesses in 2025 to that point.1 The building’s prior use is not recorded.
