Ownership and history

Third Coast Pizza is owned by Sean Meyer, who grew up in Chicago — where his mother began teaching him to cook at age four — before the family relocated to Prairie Village, Kansas during his elementary years.² Meyer worked his way up in the Kansas City restaurant scene from dishwasher, and founded Third Coast out of nostalgia: he and his mother “were both still in search of an Italian Beef, Chicago Dog, and the pizza we remembered from our time in the Windy City.”² His mother, known as “Mommy,” is described as the restaurant’s biggest supporter and supplies its homemade cheesecake.¹ The Lenexa restaurant opened in 2019; a separate Westside (Kansas City, Missouri) location has since permanently closed, while Lenexa continues with the same recipes.¹⁴⁵ In August 2025 Meyer opened the adjoining bar Sara McGinty’s at 7822 Quivira, which shares Third Coast’s kitchen and serves the same deep-dish pizzas.⁴
