Tivol is Kansas City’s premier and oldest luxury jeweler, with two retail locations: a flagship on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, and a second store at Hawthorne Plaza in Overland Park, Kansas.¹ Both stores carry an extensive selection of fine jewelry, bridal and engagement jewelry, and fine Swiss timepieces, alongside a collection of American-made watches.¹ As a fine-jewelry and watch retailer, Tivol is a non-service-industry business under the Registry’s classification.¹

The company is an authorized dealer for major luxury watch and designer-jewelry brands, including Rolex and David Yurman, and operates a dedicated Rolex showroom presence.⁴⁵ In 2003 Tivol was recognized as the top retail jeweler by the American Gem Society.⁶

Founded in 1910, Tivol has been a staple of Kansas City for more than a century, remaining continuously family-owned and operated across four generations.²

Ownership and history

Tivol was founded in 1910 by Charles Tivol (1890–1969), a Russian immigrant who opened a jewelry store under the family name in the Altman Building in downtown Kansas City, off Petticoat Lane.² His son Harold Tivol (1923–2016), a Gemological Institute of America graduate, joined after WWII service and in 1951 opened the Country Club Plaza flagship at 220 Nichols Road.²³ The third generation, Cathy Tivol, joined leadership in 1978 and served as CEO until May 2023.² The Overland Park store at Hawthorne Plaza opened in 1994.³ The fourth generation, Hunter Tivol McGrath (Cathy’s son), joined the Hawthorne sales team in 2011 and became CEO in May 2023.²
