Vine Street Chicken Co. is an “urban chicken joint” soft-launched February 2026 inside vine-street-brewing-co (Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery) at 2000 Vine St in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. A partnership between Kemet Coleman (Vine Street Brewing co-founder) and Justin Clark (RJ Culinary Group, urban-restaurant-troost), the concept was positioned as two Black-owned KC businesses coming together during Black History Month 2026. Bob Kendrick (Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president) publicly endorsed it.

Description

Vine Street Chicken Co. is a fried and grilled chicken concept inside Vine Street Brewing Co. at 2000 Vine St in the Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. It soft-launched in February 2026 during Black History Month — a deliberate timing by co-founders Kemet Coleman (one of three co-founders of Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery) and Justin Clark (RJ Culinary Group), who are longtime friends. KCUR covered the launch on February 8, 2026.1

The concept is distinct from the brewery: separate branding, its own Instagram, and Clark as the food operator. Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, publicly endorsed the opening — a signal of its alignment with the 18th & Vine district’s cultural mission. The launch coincided with the broader “Revive the Vine” development initiative in the district.

See vine-street-brewing-co for the host brewery’s Registry page. See urban-restaurant-troost for Clark’s other KC concept.

Tier classification

Tier 1. Both co-operators are established Black KC food/beverage operators with documented community missions and ties to KC’s most historically significant Black cultural district. Coleman’s role founding Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery and Clark’s multi-year Troost investment together make Tier 1 unambiguous.
