Waldo Supper Club is a historic ballroom and dinner-theater venue at 8011 Wornall Rd in Waldo, operated by the Kansas City entertainment company Social Cabaret (C.A.S.T. KC) alongside its Overland Park home and Café 333 in the Crossroads. Murder-mystery cabarets, live jazz, comedy, weddings and private events in a room the operator traces to the 1930s nightclub Mary’s Place. Distinct from Social (Waldo), an unrelated sports bar on Broadway.

Description

Waldo Supper Club is a ballroom and dinner-theater venue at 8011 Wornall Road in Waldo. It is one of three Kansas City-area rooms run by Social Cabaret, the public brand of Cabaret Arts and Social Theatre (C.A.S.T. KC), whose CEO is Coralyn Martin; the others are the Overland Park venue on Metcalf Avenue and Café 333 on Southwest Boulevard.12

Programming is event-driven rather than walk-in. The best-known recurring format is “Supper & Suspects,” a murder-mystery cabaret staged with The American Vaudeville Company, in which a dinner service runs alongside the performance.3 The room also hosts live jazz, cabaret singers, comedians and dancers, and is rented for themed weddings, corporate events and private parties.1 Food across the company’s venues is led by chef G.A. Murdock, whose menu at Café 333 carries over items first served at Waldo Supper Club.2

The operator describes the building as a historic venue with roots in the 1930s, originally the nightclub Mary’s Place, and says the original dance floor survives.1 Mary’s Place was the roadhouse-turned-nightclub of Mary Ballman, an Italian immigrant who arrived in Kansas City around 1932 and built a café, beer garden and dance hall near 79th–80th and Wornall, then outside the city limits.4 “ — the local-history account of Mary’s Place says that building later housed a pet store, so the identification of 8011 Wornall as Mary’s original room rests on the operator’s own claim and has not been independently confirmed here.
