Lake Jacomo is a 970-acre freshwater reservoir inside Fleming Park — a 7,809-acre county park near Blue Springs, Missouri in Jackson County. The reservoir was built between 1952 and 1959 and officially opened May 30, 1959. The project originated when Harry S. Truman, then Presiding Judge of Jackson County, ordered a study in 1932, two decades before voters approved the enabling bond. Its 19-mile shoreline now hosts the largest boat-rental marina in the Kansas City metropolitan area.1

History

The reservoir traces to a 1932 feasibility study ordered by Harry S. Truman in his role as Presiding Judge of Jackson County. Development did not begin until voters approved an enabling bond measure roughly two decades later; construction ran 1952–1959, and the lake officially opened May 30, 1959.1

Hydrology

Lake Jacomo is fed by Prairie Lee Lake upstream and discharges into Blue Springs Lake. It has a maximum depth of 53 feet, a surface elevation of 833 feet, and a shoreline of approximately 19 miles.1

Recreation

Activities include sailing, sailboat racing, pontoon boating, fishing, and hiking. Fish species reported include crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, carp, catfish, hybrid striped bass, green sunfish, and walleye. The public marina operates year-round and is the largest boat-rental marina in the Kansas City metropolitan area, with more than 80 rentals available.1
