Sura Eats

Sura Eats was a Kansas City Korean concept founded by Keeyoung Kim and David Son that began as a pop-up in 2016, took a fixed stall inside the Parlor food hall in the Crossroads, and later ran as a standalone spot before closing. Its team carried the momentum forward into a full-service Westport restaurant, Chingu — making Sura Eats an early chapter in one of KC’s notable Korean-food lineages. Origins — the pop-up

Sura Eats started in 2016 as an occasional Korean pop-up by Keeyoung Kim and David Son, cooking a family-table style of Korean food that built a following on the KC pop-up circuit before it had a fixed address.¹ (A pop-up, rather than a food truck, is the humble-origin form here.)

Parlor stall and standalone

Around 2018, Sura Eats took a fixed counter inside the Parlor food hall in the Crossroads — one of the hall’s founding vendors — and later operated a standalone location before it closed.² Exact standalone open/close dates are.

Closure and legacy

Sura Eats has closed, but its lineage continued: Kim and Son went on to open Chingu, a full-service Korean restaurant in Westport (4117 Pennsylvania Ave; opened November 2022) — so the Sura Eats arc (pop-up → food-hall stall → close) fed directly into a full brick-and-mortar chapter rather than ending outright.³ Chingu itself closed May 24, 2025, but the lineage continues a further generation: the brand lives on through Sura Eats sauces, Chingu Soju, and Casita de lil Chingu (opened April 2026), with an Alma Mader chimaek collaboration on Southwest Boulevard reported as upcoming (KCUR, June 2026) — see the chingu Registry page for the full continuation record. Note (2026-07-24): the “later ran as a standalone spot” claim in this page’s lead is not confirmed in press — sources document the pop-up and the Parlor stall; a separate standalone Sura Eats location remains.
