Casa Amigos sits in a retail strip at 16521 West 159th Terrace, just off 159th Street in the residential southeast quadrant of Olathe; Foursquare files it under the Arbor Creek subdivision.12 The restaurant’s self-description is brief: a family-owned house where “all of our Mexican cuisine is carefully crafted using only the freshest and finest ingredients alongside signature one-of-a-kind cocktails,” and, on Instagram, “a Family Owned Mexican restaurant offering an experience like no other. We feature made-from-scratch…” (the bio truncates).34

The menu is organized into fourteen sections — appetizers, salads and bowls, tacos, chimichangas, burritos, quesadillas, “Mexican favorites,” fajitas, enchiladas, seafood, vegetarian, combinations, sides and soft drinks.5 The favorites section is the house’s showcase: flautas, pork tamales, chiles rellenos, an “El Magnifico” of fried stuffed-tortilla squares under Mexican cream cheese, carnitas de puerco with chiles toreados, a guajillo-marinated tampiqueña, carne asada with cebollitas, and two three-meat plates under espinaca cheese dip — “Jose’s Special” (steak, chicken, carnitas) and “Los Tres Brothers” (steak, chicken, shrimp).6 Tacos run from a classic three-taco platter to street, barbacoa, al pastor, fish and shrimp tacos on corn tortillas, several flagged gluten-free.7 A separate lunch menu reprices most of the card between $8.25 and $10.50, including a chorizo-and-egg plate and two combination plates.8

The official “About Us” page is the only ownership statement on the record: “Here at Casa Amigos, we are a family owned restaurant that has been in the industry for many years, and now, we are fortunate enough to be working under a different alias and can finally bring Jose’s and his family’s vision to life.”3 Jose’s surname is not published anywhere found.

The “different alias” is La Carreta. La Carreta is a small Kansas Mexican chain whose website today lists units in Lansing and Gardner and still carries a location page for “16521 W. 159th Terrace, Olathe” with the same (913) 397-0633 number and the old lunch/dinner split hours.1213 Yelp’s La Carreta listing for the Olathe address — created in 2013 — is marked closed, and Casa Amigos’ own site links to a Facebook page whose handle is still “lacarretaolathe.”111 Casa Amigos’ Instagram begins on November 18, 2020, which is the best available date for the rename; how the Olathe unit separated from the La Carreta group — a buyout by a family member or manager, or a franchise-style split — is not documented.4 The Foursquare venue for “Casa Amigos” carries an identifier from October 2012, which may indicate an earlier Casa Amigos at this address before the La Carreta years, or simply a renamed venue record.2
