District Biskuits – E 63rd Street is the second location of Guroux Khalifah’s biscuit-sandwich restaurant, opened in June 2026 at 1664 E. 63rd Street — the same East Side strip-mall storefront where District Biskuits began in 2017 as a morning pop-up inside his uncle’s Lutfi’s Fried Fish. It serves the full biscuit menu (the Wonder, the Crown, the Charlie Hustle, biscuits and gravy, Troost Juice lemonades) plus the Howlin’ Fowls fried-chicken menu, and, unlike the North Kansas City original, stays open into the evening with added dinner plates like Cajun pasta with blackened shrimp. Khalifah calls it a homecoming: “we’re here, we’re back and we’re ready to serve them.”

Description

The 63rd Street District Biskuits is a small room — roughly 20 seats along a single long red booth — in a strip mall on East 63rd Street just east of The Paseo, with a plywood service counter that Khalifah asks customers to sign and walls lettered with his love for the city and for “damn good biskuits.”1 Troost Juice lemonades in their fruit colors line the register; they cannot yet be spiked here, because the location has no liquor license.1

The biscuit menu is the same one served in North Kansas City: the Wonder (fried chicken, fried egg, American cheese, beef bacon), the Charlie Hustle (Nashville-hot chicken, hot honey, slaw, dill pickles), the DB Mac (mac and cheese, fried chicken, bacon jam, hot honey), biscuits and gravy, hash-brown coins.21 The surprise best seller, as at the original, is The Crown, a double smash burger inside a biscuit, discounted to $7 on Wednesdays.1 “It doesn’t matter what you put in (the biscuit),” Khalifah told the Star. “Who would have thought of putting a smashburger patty inside of a biscuit? But it really works.”1

Because a morning crowd has been harder to draw here than in NKC — on a recent weekday most trade was to-go — Khalifah has leaned the location toward dinner. The Howlin’ Fowls fried-chicken menu, a sister concept he began developing about two years earlier, runs from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and he has added dinner entrées aimed at neighbors who remember the seafood at his family’s earlier restaurants in the space: Cajun pasta with blackened shrimp and chicken, a hot-honey shrimp dish, loaded fries with chopped fried chicken, spicy cheese curds, a fried-or-grilled chicken wrap and a chicken salad.12 He has said morning hours may be trimmed if breakfast business does not pick up.1

Ownership and history

Guroux Khalifah is a Kansas City native, a Le Cordon Bleu (Atlanta) graduate who cooked at Bristol Seafood and Lidia’s before deciding he wanted to make food that “resonated with more people, like a biscuit.”13 The full founder biography is on the Armour Road page.

This storefront is where the brand started. In 2017, in the couple of hours before his uncle’s Lutfi’s Fried Fish opened for the day, Khalifah turned out chicken-and-egg biscuit sandwiches for a morning line that stretched out the door of 1664 E. 63rd St.14 He remembers being told, “Who builds a business off of a biscuit?”1 The pop-up ran until 2020; after a pandemic detour through catering and a stand at the Adam’s Mark hotel, District Biskuits opened its own restaurant in North Kansas City in December 2022.43 In the interim the 63rd Street space housed his brother’s District Fish & Pasta House for a shorter run.1

The return was announced on Instagram in spring 2026 — “Full circle. We’re back where it all started” — with a grand-opening weekend first set for May 30 and then pushed to June 6–7; the Star’s August feature places the opening in “late June.”51 Khalifah describes it as reconnecting with an East Side community his family has fed for decades: “I’m just trying to reconnect with the people of the community and let them know we’re here, we’re back and we’re ready to serve them.”1 Plans include expanding into a neighboring bay for more seating and applying for a liquor license; longer term he would like District Biskuits to become a regional brand.1
