Fénix (“Tacos Reborn”) is the Latin American taco kitchen inside Strang Hall, the food hall at 7313 W 80th St in downtown Overland Park, Kansas.12 It launched in spring 2020 as the chef-entrepreneur concept of Kansas City native chef Brett DeHart, replacing the hall’s original taco stall Nida.3 DeHart has since left Strang Hall to open his own restaurant, The Go To, in Louisburg, Kansas — referenced in the past tense by The Pitch in June 2025.4 Fénix continues under the Strang Hall banner with no separately named chef or operator published, and on the evidence available it now reads as a venue-operated house brand of Strang Hall rather than an independent tenant business.

Description

Fénix is one of six kitchens operating inside Strang Hall, the multi-vendor food hall in downtown Overland Park’s Edison District.2 Its own page describes the concept as honoring “the rich flavors and vibrant traditions of Latin American culinary heritage with a modern twist infusion,” under the tagline “Tacos Reborn.”1

The kitchen opened in spring 2020 when Kansas City native chef Brett DeHart took over the stall previously occupied by Nida, another taco concept, and reframed it as “taqueria by day, and elevated Latin cuisine by night.”3 DeHart had spent 27 years in kitchens, including a stint as an executive chef in Salt Lake City, before returning to Kansas City.3 He went on to open a second concept in the same building, the sushi kitchen Tora Zushi, in April 2021.5

DeHart is no longer at Strang Hall. The Pitch, writing in June 2025 about his own restaurant The Go To in Louisburg, Kansas, referred to Fénix and Tora Zushi in the past tense (“You may remember him from the Mexican-infused Fénix and Asian-inspired Tora Zushi in OP”).4 Both brands remained in the hall after his departure, and Strang Hall changed hands in September 2025, when Kansas City restaurant group Culinary Virtue acquired it.6 The current Fénix page carries no chef biography.1

Independent tenant or venue house brand?

Assessment: venue-operated house brand of Strang Hall — inference, not a sourced assertion. No source located states in terms who owns the Fénix brand today. The following first-party evidence supports the house-brand reading:

  • No independent web presence. Fénix’s only website is a page on the hall’s own domain, stranghall.com/fenix/. No separate domain was found.1
  • Shared phone and email. The Fénix page lists the hall’s shared number, (913) 701-7041, and the hall’s contact address; no Fénix-specific line exists.17
  • Shared ordering account. Every “Order Now” / “View Menu” link on the Fénix page resolves to Strang Hall’s single Toast account (toasttab.com/strang-hall/v3), with Fénix appearing as a menu group inside it — not a separate merchant storefront.8
  • The hall rebrands its own kitchens. Strang Hall renamed its pizza stall from Norcini to Pizza Kraft in early 2026 while keeping the same chef and the same page (the old URL 301-redirects to the new one) — venue-level control of the brands rather than tenant turnover.910
  • The founding chef left and the brand stayed. DeHart departed to open The Go To; Fénix continued in his absence and now publishes no named chef.41

Countervailing evidence: Fénix was created as a chef-entrepreneur concept in 2020 and retains its own Facebook page (“Fénix at Strang Hall”), and Strang Hall’s original 2019 model was explicitly a culinary incubator leasing stalls to independent chefs.3116 It is therefore possible Fénix is still a distinct business under a chef not publicly named. This is not resolved. No Kansas Secretary of State filing search was completed — the state’s business-entity search is an interactive portal not retrievable by the tools available here. “

Operating status

Active. Fénix is listed as a current kitchen on Strang Hall’s own site and on every sibling kitchen page as of 2026-08-13, and the hall is open at 7313 W 80th St.12

Last verified: 2026-08-14 · Source: Strang Hall’s own Toast online-ordering account (order.toasttab.com/online/strang-hall), the destination of every ordering link on stranghall.com; Fénix appears there as its own menu group.12 · Confidence: High — every item name, description and price below is transcribed from that first-party storefront. What is not confirmed: which items rotate by day (Toast labels the group “Fénix (Friday)” and the capture was taken on a Friday, 2026-08-14), and the individual taco fillings inside the “Tres Tacos” item, which live in an order-time modifier list the capture did not expand.

The 2026-08-13 verdict of “no recoverable first-party menu” is superseded: the Toast storefront 403s to plain HTTP fetches but renders in full under a headless browser. Do not re-spend effort on the Wayback Machine or Toast’s API for this page.

Day-of-week ceiling (unconfirmed). Toast presents this group as “Fénix (Friday)” alongside “Anousone (Friday)”, “Beer Kitchen (Friday)”, “Pizza Kraft (Friday)” and “Tora Zushi (Friday)” — every kitchen carries the same day label, which is consistent with a single daily-published menu rather than a Fénix-specific rotation. Whether any item above is Friday-only is not established. Treat the list as the confirmed Friday 2026-08-14 menu, not as a permanent one; a second capture on a different weekday would settle it.

Historical (2020–21 press, superseded by the first-party list above and not confirmed current): taco fillings pastor, pollo, carnitas, Americano (ground beef), vegetarian, soft-shell crab, pescado frito, and costilla (beef short rib), on soft corn, crispy corn, or flour tortillas; a 16-spice smoked chicken entrée with corn coulis, fried avocado, and house mole as best-selling entrée.13 A short-rib breakfast burrito on the 2021 weekend brunch menu14 — the breakfast burrito persists on the current menu under a different published description, which governs.

Aggregator listings (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, SinglePlatform) exist but are excluded from this Registry for pricing.
