the Quillec family’s French café-and-épicerie in the Shops of Prairie Village, founded in 2013 by Patrick and Joanne Quillec as a sibling to their flagship Café Provence; Tier 1 as part of a 20+ year owner-operated family enterprise rooted in Prairie Village.
Description
French Market is a French café, retail market, and traiteur (catering operation) in the Shops of Prairie Village, modeled on the “épiceries and traiteurs of France — independent artisanal stores offering made-from-scratch foods ready to be enjoyed at home.”1 It combines a café, a market of French imports and home goods, and prepared-food service, with a menu spanning crêpes, sandwiches, soups, salads, tapas, charcuterie, quiche, pastries, and beverages.1
The market is the sibling concept to the Quillec family’s flagship Café Provence, located nearby in the same Prairie Village district, and stocks Café Provence soups, sauces, and sweets for takeaway.1 French Market operates first-come, first-served (no reservations), with freshly made crêpes featured on Saturdays.2
As of 2026 French Market remains open, with hours of roughly 8:00 am–8:00/9:00 pm Monday–Saturday (closed Sunday) and a Yelp listing updated May 2026.2
Ownership and history
French Market was founded in 2013 by Joanne and Patrick Quillec, who also own and operate the award-winning Café Provence nearby in Prairie Village.1 Patrick Quillec is a French expatriate and Joanne Quillec is a Philadelphia native; the couple settled in Prairie Village and built a multi-restaurant family enterprise anchored by Café Provence.3
French Market is the second of the family’s three Prairie Village concepts. It extends Café Provence’s French kitchen into a daytime café-and-market format, and in May 2020 the family added a third concept, Verbena, an American/New England restaurant at The Inn at Meadowbrook reflecting Joanne Quillec’s East Coast roots.3
