Description

Guitars & Cadillacs is a roughly 10,000-square-foot live-country-music venue and dance hall in the Rosana Square center at 7312 W 119th St, Overland Park, KS.¹² It bills itself as “KC’s original live country music venue and dance hall,” offering live country music, a roadhouse dancing atmosphere, comfort food, and drinks.¹

The venue is a destination for country social dancing. It runs free dance lessons Wednesday through Friday: Country Two-Step with instructor “Mike” from 6:15–7:00pm, followed by Line Dance lessons with Laura “KC Boot Dancer” from 7:00–8:00pm, leading into open dancing to country hits.³ On Sundays, the venue programs an all-ages “family day” with free dance lessons for children.² This recurring free-lesson-into-social-dancing pipeline is what earns the page its two-step/country-dance and line-dance dance secondaries (see social-dancing-in-kansas-city).

Ownership and history

Guitars & Cadillacs is locally owned and operated by Mitch Kerns and Jack Hanrahan, two of the brand’s original founders.²⁴

The original brand (1988). Mitch Kerns and two partners founded the first Guitars & Cadillacs in Kansas City’s Westport neighborhood in 1988.²⁴ The brand became a KC-metro country-bar staple, expanding over the years to multiple locations across the Kansas City metro — including Overland Park, Olathe, and the Northland — and to Missouri markets (Branson, Joplin, Springfield) and beyond (Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines).² The company notes that 2026 marks the 38th anniversary of the first location.¹

The Overland Park revival (2022). Kerns began exploring a new venue in 2017 but paused during the pandemic.² He and fellow original founder Jack Hanrahan partnered to reopen the brand, holding the grand opening of the Overland Park location on July 28, 2022 in the Rosana Square center — a space whose prior club infrastructure made it a natural fit.² Kerns has framed the revival around country music’s continued popularity: “Country music is more popular today than it was when we started in 1988.”²
