Housewife is Anna Sorge’s scratch-made breakfast and lunch café in old downtown Grandview, open since December 2021 in a historic Main Street building. Sorge is a self-taught chef — the restaurant name came directly from a dismissal: a fine dining owner once said to her, “How can a simple housewife like you cook better food than my executive chef?” She turned the insult into a brand. A wife and mother of four, she spent years cooking for her family at home and previously managed a fine dining establishment before opening Housewife with pastry chef Zoey Ramberg. Housewife is Anna Sorge’s scratch-made café in old downtown Grandview, open since December 2021. Sorge is self-taught — she never went to culinary school — and the restaurant name is a direct response to a dismissal she received while managing a fine dining establishment, when an owner said: “How can a simple housewife like you cook better food than my executive chef?” A wife and mother of four, she spent years perfecting her cooking for her family at home before deciding to go professional. She opened Housewife with pastry chef Zoey Ramberg in a historic Main Street building in Grandview, one of the few daytime food options in old downtown. The menu is scratch-made and seasonal — pastries, croissants, soups, sandwiches, salads, and coffee. Feast Magazine covered the opening; InKansasCity.com and VoyageKC have also featured the restaurant. As of May 2026, Housewife remains active on Instagram.
