Description

Kate Smith Soirée operates out of a street-level bakery at 7911 Santa Fe Drive in downtown Overland Park, occupying the space previously held by Clock Tower Bakery. The shop’s signature product is its French macaron program — a rotating menu of more than 130 flavors, made using traditional techniques with seasonal ingredients. In addition to macarons, the bakery produces a daily-changing selection of pastries, quiche, sweet treats, and custom celebration cakes. Beverage offerings are developed in partnership with Savoy Tea and All The Love Roasting Co.

The Overland Park location is the second Johnson County outpost for the brand, and opened in February 2023 after Smith rebuilt the space in under two months. The bakery has been recognized for accommodating gluten-free dietary needs, appearing on gluten-free dining guides for the Kansas City area.² The business is women-owned and operated.

Ownership and history

Kate Smith grew up working in her family’s restaurant before earning a Hospitality Management degree from Oklahoma State University in 2017. During her studies she traveled to Florence, Italy, where she studied Culinary Arts and Pastry and became deeply interested in French macaron technique. On returning to Kansas City, she committed to bringing that caliber of French pastry craft to the Midwest.

Smith launched Kate Smith Soirée in June 2019 at the Lenexa Public Market — her first storefront. The brand expanded beyond macarons over time, and by 2023 she had grown the operation to include the downtown Overland Park location at 7911 Santa Fe Drive, taking over a beloved local bakery space.³ Smith has described the Overland Park opening as a personal milestone, noting her pride in transforming the space in less than two months.
