Description

Martin City Brewing Company is a Kansas City craft brewery and restaurant group whose flagship sits at 410 E 135th Street in the historic Martin City district of far south Kansas City, Missouri — described by the company as “where the Martin City Brewing Company story began.”5 The concept pairs award-winning, in-house craft beer with stone-fired pizza, pub fare, and a laid-back atmosphere across a fleet of metro pizza-and-taproom and tavern locations.51

Founder Matt Moore, a longtime homebrewer, set out to make “beer that was bigger, bolder and preferably local,” and by January 2014 MCBC had added a state-of-the-art production brewery alongside its Pizza & Taproom, marking its transition into serious beer production.2 In November 2014 MCBC’s beers began flowing into other KC-metro restaurants, followed by canning and distribution across state lines.3 The brewery is known locally for its Belgian-style and craft offerings and has been covered by The Pitch as one of KC’s craft-beer “masterminds.”6

From its single south-KC pub, MCBC has grown to seven KC-area restaurant locations as of 2026, the newest being Crossroads Tavern & Terrace at 1999 Main Street, which opened June 5, 2026.7

Ownership and history

Martin City Brewing Company was founded in 2011 by Matt Moore and his old sailing friend Chance Adams, who hatched the microbrewery idea over lunch in Martin City.12 Moore — who grew up working at his family’s Kansas City steakhouse staple Jess & Jim’s, where he’d worked since age 10 — was a homebrewer running a landscaping business when he bought a vacant building in the Martin City neighborhood, originally intending it for landscaping equipment. He instead teamed with Adams to convert the space into a brewery, opening the doors as a brewpub on June 3, 2011.12

By January 2014 the company expanded into a state-of-the-art brewery alongside a Pizza & Taproom, and in November 2014 began distributing its house beers to KC-metro restaurants, later canning and shipping across state lines.3 MCBC subsequently expanded across the metro — Mission Farms (Overland Park, KS), Blue Parkway (Lee’s Summit, MO), Lenexa (KS), Station 7 Tavern (Lee’s Summit, MO), South Plaza Tavern (4950 Main St, KCMO, 2024), and Crossroads Tavern & Terrace (1999 Main St, KCMO, June 2026).17 Matt Moore is identified in 2026 press as co-founder and CEO.7

[!note] Founder name spelling Press and the KC Star refer to the co-founder as both “Chance Adams” (most official/Pitch coverage) and “Chancie Adams” (KC Star). They are the same person; this page uses “Chance Adams” per MCBC-aligned sourcing, noting “Chancie” as the alternate. **** of the canonical legal spelling.

Disputes

  • Relationship to martin-city-tavern (Registry REST-052): Martin City Tavern (a.k.a. South Plaza Tavern) at 4950 Main St is not a separate company — it is one of MCBC’s locations (this operator page is its parent). The existing Registry page covers that single South Plaza venue; this page is the operator/brand page for the whole MCBC group. Do not duplicate: the Tavern page should be cross-linked as a location of MCBC, and the South Plaza row in ## Locations above points to it. Consider reconciling business IDs (REST-052 for the Tavern vs. BAR-MARTIN-CITY-BREWING here) at Layer 2.
  • Address discrepancy: Martin City Tavern page cites the original pub as 500 E 135th St; MCBC’s official site lists 410 E 135th St. This page uses 410 E 135th St per the current official source.
