Monstera’s Books is an independent bookstore + plant shop at 7930 Floyd St in downtown Overland Park, opened March 2024 by Kate Wieners — who left 15 years in corporate software sales to open the shop. After a fire forced closure in 2025, Wieners rebuilt and reopened in December 2025.

Monstera’s Books is Kate Wieners’s independent bookstore and plant shop on Floyd St in downtown Overland Park — a concept born from a dramatic career pivot. Wieners left 15 years in corporate software sales to open the shop in March 2024, combining book retail with a plant-shop component in a format that reflects the third-space direction many of KC’s most successful indie bookstores have taken.

In 2025, a fire forced the shop to close. Wieners rebuilt and Monstera’s reopened in December 2025, demonstrating the community investment the shop had built in its first year and a half. The fire-and-return arc has become part of the store’s identity in the OP community.
