Description

Outta the Blue Cafe is a beach-themed coffee shop and bar in the Park Place mixed-use development in Leawood, Kansas. It is the latest café/bar concept from Made in KC, the Kansas City maker-retail brand, and opened in June 2021 — a soft opening on June 9 and a grand opening on June 19.123

The space leans hard into a tropical-oasis aesthetic: full-size live palm trees trucked in from California, surfboards mounted on the walls, palm fronds overhead, and cabana-like swings lining the front windows.24 The format is café by day, bar by night — counter-service local coffee in the mornings transitioning to natural wines and classic tropical cocktails. The coffee is a custom blend of African and Central American beans roasted for the shop by Christopher Oppenhuis’s Marcell Coffee; the food and drink program features cold-pressed juices, vegan breakfast sandwiches from Mattie’s, and baked goods from Parisi, KC Baking Co. and other local makers.35 Published hours are Mon–Thu 7a–10p, Fri–Sat 7a–11p, Sun 7a–6p.6

The concept extends the Made in KC pattern of leaning on local suppliers and makers, channeled here through a single-theme café/bar rather than the brand’s retail-forward format.
