Pho Sai Gon is a Tran-family, order-at-the-counter Vietnamese restaurant in a big shopping-center storefront at 14861 Metcalf Ave in deep south Overland Park. It opened in spring 2019 with a photo-board menu of pho, spicy beef noodle soup, crab-paste rice noodles, grilled pork chop over vermicelli, bánh mì and family-size seafood hot pots, and about 100 seats of plain wooden tables that get pushed together for large families on weekend evenings.

Description

Pho Sai Gon occupies “a large storefront in a shopping mall in deep south Overland Park,” on the east side of Metcalf just north of 151st Street.1 Feast Magazine’s April 2019 opening report describes the model: customers walk through a large dining room of four- and two-top wooden tables to a counter at the back facing an open kitchen “busting with half a dozen cooks working over stoves and bubbling pots,” and order from a large photo menu on the wall.1 The room seats about 100, and the tables are “often reconfigured to accommodate large families.”1

The menu is Vietnamese comfort food rather than a pho-only shop. Feast recorded beef, chicken and tofu pho in three sizes ($6.99–$10.99), a spicy beef noodle soup on thick noodles with onion, chile, basil and mint, a crab paste rice noodle soup built on chunks of crab cake, sweet barbecue-style pork chops over rice noodles with a fried spring roll ($8.99), bánh mì with pork or tofu ($3.99), fresh spring rolls with shrimp or tofu (3 for $3.99), fried tofu three ways, and seafood or beef hot pots in single or family portions ($11.99–$34.99) — the seafood version with shrimp, mussels, tilapia and langoustine.1 Desserts run to tofu pudding, sticky rice with mung bean and mung-bean cakes; Vietnamese coffee was $3.49.1

Visit Overland Park’s current listing repeats the same framing — “homestyle, traditional Vietnamese comfort food, as well as Vietnamese coffee and a small selection of desserts,” with “seafood hot pots, pho, beef noodle soup, bánh mì and much more.”2 Feast’s reviewer noted the counter model keeps waits short even with a full room: “wait times for food are rarely longer than about 15 minutes.”1

Ownership and history

Pho Sai Gon “is a fast-casual Vietnamese restaurant managed by Huang Tran, and owned by the Tran family.”1 It opened in spring 2019 and “was an immediate hit in the neighborhood.”1 No further background on the Tran family — prior restaurants, hometown, or KC ties — appears in the press record; the only coverage found is the Feast opening piece.

The restaurant’s original web presence has decayed: the phosaigonop.com domain no longer resolves, and the Square-hosted ordering site that Visit Overland Park still links returns a 404.2 The Facebook page named in Feast’s 2019 listing (phosaigon.cafe) remains the primary first-party channel.1

Last verified: not verified · Source: no first-party menu is currently published (the restaurant’s website and Square ordering site are both down; the in-store menu is a photo board) · Confidence: none. The 2019 dishes and prices cited in the Description are historical, from Feast, and should not be read as current.1
