Q Kansas City

Q Kansas City is KC’s only permanent LGBTQ+ nightclub and community venue, opened February 14, 2025 at 504 Westport Rd (the former Bridger’s / Johnny Kaw’s space — see bridgers-kc). Co-owned by Lance Pierce (founder of Queer Bar Takeover and Queer Dinner Club; 8 years of KC queer event programming before this permanent home) and Brett Allred (owner of jungalow, Bar + Rec, and Lotus). Two-floor venue with main dance floor + stage, club seating, large back patio, and an intimate upstairs speakeasy. Partnered with the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America for monthly themed cocktails honoring queer historical figures.

Description

Q Kansas City opened Valentine’s Day 2025 at 504 Westport Rd as KC’s only permanent LGBTQ+ nightclub. The venue fills a gap that Kansas City’s queer community had navigated through rotating pop-up programming — Lance Pierce’s Queer Bar Takeover events and Queer Dinner Club had built an 8-year KC following before Pierce co-signed the Westport space with Brett Allred (Jungalow, Bar + Rec, Lotus).

The two-story design was deliberate: main floor with a stage for performances and dance events, a large back patio, and an intimate upstairs speakeasy for guests who want the community without the full sensory load of a dance club. Q KC partnered with the Gay and Lesbian Archives of Mid-America to develop monthly themed cocktails — each named for a queer historical figure, rotating with the archives’ collection — building an explicitly educational cultural layer into the bar program.

The Westport location occupies the former Bridger’s / Johnny Kaw’s space (see bridgers-kc).

In its own words, Q bills itself as “more than just a nightclub” — “a cornerstone for genuine connection, pride, joy, and belonging for the LGBTQ+ community and allies” — offering inclusive programming, energetic music and entertainment, specialty drinks, and art-filled spaces, from high-energy dance nights and drag shows to themed celebrations and community-focused gatherings, with the stated aim of being “an essential hub where people are seen, celebrated, and truly at home.”¹ As a nightclub, Q’s offering is drinks and entertainment rather than food — a specialty-cocktail program (including the monthly GLAMA-themed drinks) with no food menu — so it is not a Registry food-menu target.

Tier classification

Tier 2. Lance Pierce has 8 years of documented KC queer community organizing before the permanent venue — a depth of KC investment that reads as “dedication to KC roots” even if native status is unconfirmed. Brett Allred is an established KC multi-venue operator. Both the GLAMA partnership and the deliberate design for introverts and sensory-sensitive guests signal community-first, not trend-chasing. If Pierce is KC-born, a Tier 1 case is straightforward.
