Ruchi Indian Cuisine is a long-running Indian restaurant at 11168 Antioch Road in Overland Park, a strip-center storefront just south of I-435 that has served a daily all-you-can-eat lunch buffet and a very long à la carte menu since the late 1990s. The kitchen’s own framing is South Indian — the name is the Sanskrit word for taste, and the restaurant says its chefs train in the Kerala tradition — but the menu runs North and South: Hyderabadi and Andhra-style dum biryanis (gongura, avakai, ulavacharu, natu kodi), Chettinad and Kerala curries, tandoori and kabob plates, Indo-Chinese, and a dedicated goat section. The restaurant’s social feeds in 2026 describe it as “serving the community for 27 years.”

Description

Ruchi sits in a small retail strip on the west side of Antioch Road at about 112th Street, in the office-and-apartment belt of Overland Park between College Boulevard and I-435. The restaurant’s site describes it as a place “where authentic Indian traditions meet modern convenience,” specializing “in both North & South Indian cuisine,” with “authentic biryanis, South Indian specialties, and rich curries” as the draw.1 Directory listings carry the older, more specific self-description: “award-winning Southern Indian cuisine inspired by the spice-rich region of Kerala,” where “all our chefs are trained,” with Ruchi glossed as the Sanskrit word for taste.234

The working heart of the business is the lunch buffet, offered seven days a week — 11 to 2 on weekdays, 11 to 2:30 on weekends — and marketed on the restaurant’s feeds as a “Weekend Grand Buffet” with 20-plus items, live dosa and noodle stations on special weekends, and holiday tie-ins such as an Indian Independence Day buffet in August 2026.564 A longtime Tripadvisor reviewer describes the Sunday buffet and the dining room’s capacity for family tables and “a room in back for larger groups.”7

The à la carte menu is unusually deep for a suburban Indian restaurant. The biryani section alone runs to two dozen items — chicken, lamb, goat, shrimp, egg, paneer and vegetable dum biryanis, plus regional Andhra styles (Vijayawada, natu kodi/country chicken, ulavacharu/horse-gram, avakai/mango-pickle, gongura/sorrel) — sold by the plate, by the “bucket,” and as catering trays for three to four people with salan, raita, appetizer and dessert.5 Beyond that: a pakora-and-bajji appetizer list, a South Specialties section, egg thalis, tandoori and seekh/gola kabobs, Indo-Chinese (Manchurian, chilly chicken and fish), chicken, lamb, goat and seafood curries in a dozen preparations each, and a large vegetable section.5 Online orders are placed directly through the restaurant’s own site, which runs pickup and delivery promotions (a 25%-off pickup code and a $12-off delivery code were live in August 2026).5

Reviews are mixed and have been for years. The restaurant’s own site quotes a 4.0 Google rating and a 4.2 Facebook rating.1 Tripadvisor reviewers praise the garlic naan, tandoori chicken and biryanis and note that the local Indian community patronizes it, while several 2023–2026 reviews complain of a tired dining room and an uneven buffet; one June 2026 reviewer wrote that “twenty years ago this place offered the best Indian buffet around OP” and that the competition has since multiplied.7 Yelp lists roughly 360 reviews.8

Ownership and history

Ruchi’s ownership is not documented in any press or first-party source found. The restaurant’s Facebook page is administered by an entity called Cloud Mellow Consulting Ltd Co, per Facebook’s page-transparency data surfaced in search — which may be a marketing contractor rather than the owner.9 A Tripadvisor reviewer names a manager, “Roger,” and another describes the business as apparently “run by owner/siblings.”7 Owner names, whether the restaurant is still under its founding family, and the founders’ backgrounds are all open.

The opening date is likewise triangulated rather than documented. The restaurant’s 2026 Instagram and Facebook posts repeatedly say “proudly serving the Overland Park community for 27 years” and “serving taste for 27 years,” which places the opening around 1999.610 An OpenTable listing (undated, evidently written years ago) refers to “a 12 year history,” and the Travel Kansas listing says “nearly two decades of service” — both consistent with a late-1990s start if their copy dates from the 2010s.42 A 2026 reviewer’s memory of the buffet “twenty years ago” fits the same timeline.7 The restaurant has been at the Antioch Road address for the entire period covered by any source found; whether it opened there.

The restaurant has never, as far as the record shows, been reviewed by The Pitch, The Kansas City Star’s food desk, or Kansas City Magazine; its footprint is in directories, community listings (Visit Overland Park, Travel Kansas) and consumer-review sites.32
