Description
Sail Away Wine is Russ Johnson and Heather Brown’s self-pour wine bar in North Kansas City — opened in June 2021 at 309 Armour Road, and at launch the only self-pour wine concept in Kansas City. The Wineemotion system keeps 72 wines on tap, with food-grade argon gas preserving each open bottle for up to 30 days; guests manage their own pours via a passport card. Beer, spirits, and food (flatbreads, pairings) are also available. The bar hosts live music on Tuesdays and trivia on Sundays, with capacity around 50 guests. Missouri’s 2017 change to self-pour wine laws made the format legal; Johnson, who lives in North Kansas City, was among the first to bring it to the market. Feast Magazine covered the June 2021 opening; the KC Star ran a Cityscape column feature.
