Sammie’s Kitchen & Bar is a small sandwich-first sports bar in the Stanley Station shopping center at 151st Street and U.S. 69 in south Overland Park. It opened on November 18, 2025 as a side project of Matt Brentano and Jim Fager, two of the owners of the Lenexa-born Tanner’s Bar & Grill group, who wanted “a quaint little neighborhood spot” that could “flex a different muscle” than Tanner’s burger-and-wings formula. The 1,500-square-foot room keeps the televisions but trades the usual bar menu for schiacciata-bread sandwiches, pinsa-crust pizzas, brats and hot dogs, soups, and a short list of sweets.
Description
Sammie’s sits in a 1,500-square-foot storefront in Stanley Station, the strip at the southeast corner of 151st Street and U.S. 69, in the space that had been Yeti Pub & Kaffeehaus.12 The Pitch’s opening note captured the premise in a sentence: the Tanner’s team “maintains the sports bar atmosphere with televisions, but replaces the typical sports bar fare with a sandwich-focused menu.”3 Brentano told the Johnson County Post the goal was “a quaint little neighborhood spot” — “simpler, higher-end” than Tanner’s — where the owners could “flex a different muscle.”2 To the Star he described “a small, cozy place that you can get your friends for happy hour … or take your family to dinner.”1
The name is literal. The sandwich list is built on schiacciata (the Tuscan olive-oil flatbread) and hoagies: The Incredible Turkey (applewood-smoked turkey, arugula, provolone, balsamic Caesar, pepper bacon, tomato, red onion), a BLT with balsamic-onion aioli, a peppered Pastrami with spicy pickles and banana peppers, The Baller (Italian meatballs, marinara, “East Coast mozzarella” on a hoagie), The Bear (an Italian beef with hot giardiniera and au jus), and The Italian (soppressata, pepperoni and pastrami).4 Pizzas are served on pinsa flatbread — a BBQ burnt-end pie, a “double decker” pepperoni, a margherita, and “The Deli” with soppressata, prosciutto and balsamic jam — with a gluten-friendly crust available.4 A short “Dogs” section (Ragin Cajun andouille, a spicy dog, a build-your-own with three toppings, a traditional brat), three soups, four salads, and two desserts — a crème brûlée doughnut and a chocolate-chip waffle sundae — round it out.41
The bar leans local: the Johnson County Post’s preview cited craft cocktails and local beers including Boulevard and KC Bier Co.2 As of late August 2026 the website’s drink page reads only “We are updating our menu — please stay tuned,” so the current cocktail and beer list is unpublished.5 The site also advertises gluten-free and vegan options and an “extensive wine selection.”6
Ownership and history
Sammie’s belongs to Matt Brentano and Jim Fager, two of the owners of Tanner’s Bar & Grill.21 Tanner’s is a Kansas-born group: the company traces its origin to “Grandpa” Tanner in the college town of Atchison, Kansas, in the 1980s, with the first formal location opening in Lenexa in 1985.78 Its website lists eleven locations — six in the Kansas City metro (Kansas City KS on Rainbow Blvd., two in Lenexa, Overland Park at 143rd & Metcalf, Shawnee) plus Manhattan, Kansas, four in the Omaha–Lincoln area and one in Middleton, Wisconsin — and the Star puts the total at “more than a dozen” with seven in the metro.78 The site names no owners and uses no franchise language; the ownership structure of the wider group is not published.7
The Overland Park concept was announced in the Johnson County Post on November 12, 2025 and opened the following Tuesday, November 18.21 The Star’s Jenna Thompson reported the opening two days later; The Pitch’s KC Sipps column noted it as open “earlier this week” on November 20.13 Brentano and Fager’s arc since then has run in parallel with Tanner’s own: in early 2026 the group closed its 38-year-old Overland Park location at 10146 W. 119th St. in Highland Plaza, announcing a replacement at 12520 Quivira Rd. in a former LaMar’s Donuts — the same Star report that reconfirmed Sammie’s as their “elevated” sister concept.8
The space
Stanley Station is the retail strip just east of U.S. 69 on the south side of 151st Street; the storefront was Yeti Pub & Kaffeehaus before Sammie’s.21 The Yeti Pub’s own history at the address is undocumented here.
