The Corner Mexican Food Restaurant — “Mexican Corner” on its own site and delivery listings — is a family-owned restaurant at 720 Main St in downtown Grandview, open since 2017. The kitchen presses its own masa: handmade tortillas with every plate, tlacoyos, huaraches, sopes, picaditas and molotes, alongside birria in six forms, tacos de canasta, cecina, deep-fried quail, pupusas, and a two-sided vegan menu that is unusual for a taqueria. It is best known, though, for the Family Burrito — a roughly three-foot, six-to-seven-pound burrito that only two people have finished inside the 30-minute challenge window.

Description

The Corner sits at 720 Main St in Grandview’s old downtown, on the same block grid as the city’s 7th Street; older directory entries (Tripadvisor, FoodChallenges.com) give the address as 12912 7th St, and a HappyCow reviewer notes the restaurant “got a bigger location,” so the two addresses likely describe a move within the district — the details are not documented.123 One customer’s photo caption observes that the name is “very odd” because the restaurant “is not on ‘the corner.’”3

The restaurant’s own description is simple: “a family-owned and operated business serving Grandview since 2017,” committed to “authenticity, freshness, and vibrant flavor” with “recipes that have been perfected over generations,” handmade tortillas and food cooked to order.4 The menu is one of the longer ones in south Kansas City. A “Handmade Fresh Masa” section covers tlacoyos stuffed with Oaxaca cheese and chicharrón, huaraches, sopes, gorditas, picaditas in red, green or mole, mulitas and a molote with a chile relleno inside.5 Plates run from the expected (carne asada, milanesa, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, chilaquiles) to the less common: cecina, deep-fried quail (codorniz), tacos de canasta by the nine, drowned tacos in achiote, hígado encebollado, entomatadas, mole de olla and pozole.5 A birria section offers the meat as a platter, in corn or flour quesadillas, on nachos, in a “birria pizza” and in ramen; street tacos include cabeza, lengua, tripa, huitlacoche and squash blossom.5 Tortas include a cubana and a pambazo; pupusas come in eight fillings; tamales include rajas con queso, mushroom-mole and three sweet flavors.5

The vegan menu is a full second card: vegan cheese dip, loaded fries, a small “vegan pizza,” tacos de papa, tofu-stick tacos, vegan tamales, alambre, pozole, chilaquiles, tortas and churros.6 HappyCow has listed the restaurant since February 2019 for it.3

Then there is the Family Burrito. KCUR’s February 2026 survey of Kansas City’s biggest food challenges describes a burrito “approximately three feet long,” six pounds a section, “with the girth of a fence post,” served on two platters with rice, beans, lettuce, onion, cilantro and two proteins; to win, a challenger must finish it plus three grilled jalapeños in 30 minutes.7 Winners eat free and go on the Wall of Fame; losers pay $40; in eight years only two people had done it, one of them professional eater Randy Santel in 16 minutes, whose video the staff plays for encouragement.7 The restaurant’s menu lists the burrito at $40 (seven pounds, waiver required), with six months of free food — one meal a day — for a finisher.5 FoodChallenges.com’s older entry lists it at $24.50 and six pounds, a record of how the challenge has grown.2

Ownership and history

The Corner is family-owned and has been since it opened in 2017; the family’s name does not appear on the site, in KCUR’s piece or in any directory found.47 The site’s DoorDash listing is registered to “Mexican Corner LLC.”8 The “got a bigger location” comment and the 7th Street address in 2017-era listings suggest the restaurant began in a smaller space nearby; when it moved to 720 Main is not documented.31
