West Plaza Bodega is a café / corner-store concept from Blackhole Bakery owner Jason Provo at 1702 W 45th St, Kansas City, MO 64111. Soft-opened December 12, 2025 (public launch the following week). Unlike the carryout-only Troost bakery, the Bodega has seating, a full Maps Coffee program, grab-and-go grocery shelves (local makers + specialty condiments), Blackhole pastries, and made-to-order breakfast/lunch sandwiches on shokupan and focaccia.123

Description
Provo designed West Plaza Bodega as “everything Blackhole isn’t”: seating, coffee bar, made-to-order food, and shelves of pantry goods, while still delivering Blackhole’s laminated pastries and signature items (mochi donuts, pistachio-apricot puffs, croissants, etc.).14
Coffee is a primary differentiator. The Pitch and Star both report a full bar and specialty drinks powered by Maps Coffee, including an espresso blend and specialty drinks such as Blackhole mocha, apricot pistachio latte, and juniper pink peppercorn matcha (prices reported in Star opening coverage ~$6.50–$7).12
Shelves stock local products (e.g. Popculture Gourmet Popcorn, Local Pig, Marion Milling) plus specialty national brands (Graza olive oil, Sqirl jams, Ayoh sauces) — Provo citing early Dean & DeLuca experience as the model.1
GM Sarah Breiby (Local Pig, Kansas City Canning Co. pedigree) led sandwich/menu development; shokupan breakfast sandwiches and thinner focaccia lunch sandwiches were the planned expansion beyond pastry + coffee during soft open.13
Building: West Plaza antique-district storefront; lawyer Nick Porto owned the building and supported the concept (IN Kansas City anticipated-openings piece).4
Ownership and history
Jason Provo — JCCC pastry graduate; Dean & DeLuca Leawood; Parisi; founder of Blackhole Bakery (Troost, 2020). Pitch (Dec 2025) and KC Mag opening coverage confirm he remains the owner/operator of both Blackhole and the Bodega, resolving an earlier provisional note on the Blackhole page about leadership ambiguity.15
Operations support named in INKC: Kendall Beachey (operations manager across concepts); Sarah Breiby (Bodega GM).4
