Blackhole Bakery is a carryout-only French pastry shop at 5531 Troost Ave on Kansas City’s Troost Corridor, adjacent to the UMKC campus at the 55th & Troost block. Founded in 2020 by Jason Provo — a Johnson County Community College pastry program graduate and five-year veteran of Dean & DeLuca’s Leawood location (before the chain’s 2020 collapse) and Parisi — the shop specializes in classic French pastry technique alongside an unusual specialty: at the time of opening, Blackhole was reported to be Kansas City’s only purveyor of mochi donuts.1
