Lake Winnebago, Missouri is a city of 1,433 people (2020 census) in north-central Cass County, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.1 The municipality closely surrounds the private lake of the same name (two wards); it incorporated first as a village in 1963 and became a fourth-class city in 1975 by election.1

History

Lake Winnebago belongs to the mid-20th-century pattern of private lake communities on the metro fringe that later incorporated for local control (compare Lake Lotawana, Lake Tapawingo, Lake Quivira).1 It became a village in 1963 and upgraded to a fourth-class city by election in 1975.1
