Hamburguesas Los Compas is a family-run Chihuahua-style burger house at 305 N. 7th Street Trafficway in downtown Kansas City, Kansas, in business since 2007 by its own account. The specialty is the Juárez-style hamburguesa — a smashed patty stacked with a split grilled hot dog, ham, bacon and avocado — alongside the Hawaiian burger, tortas, tacos, enchiladas, menudo and caldo. It is the kind of place Kansas Tourism lists in one line: “Mexican style hamburgers, home-cooked enchiladas, tacos and more.”
Description
Los Compas sits on the 7th Street Trafficway a few blocks north of Minnesota Avenue, on the downtown side of the Strawberry Hill ridge, two blocks from Tarahumaras Authentic Mexican Restaurant #2 at 503 N. 6th, another Chihuahua-rooted kitchen.12 The hamburguesa it sells is the northern-border style: the Juárez burger is described on the restaurant’s delivery listing as “a smashed burger, grilled hot dog, sizzling ham slices, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayo all piled on a grilled bun.”3 The Hawaiian (Hawaiana, with pineapple) is the other house burger; both come as combos with fries, and reviewers mirrored from Google also order the tortas, tacos, menudo and caldo and single out the habanero salsa and a homemade green salsa.43
Kansas Tourism’s listing reads, in full: “Serving Mexican style hamburgers, home-cooked enchiladas, tacos and more.”1 Google-mirrored reviewers call it “a popular spot for a meal with friends or family, offering affordable prices” with “a friendly staff,” and “a family business… a perfect place to enjoy more than you can eat at a good price.”4 The room runs a daytime schedule — as early as 9 a.m. on weekends and Wednesdays, closing between 6 and 9 p.m. depending on the day.5
Ownership and history
The restaurant’s Facebook page presents it as the home of “the famous Hamburguesas Juárez,” serving “Chihuahuense” cooking since 2007 — the only origin statement on record, and the source for the 2007 date used here.6 Chihuahuense means from the state of Chihuahua; Ciudad Juárez, across the river from El Paso, is the home of the ham-and-hot-dog-topped hamburguesa the restaurant is named for.63 The owning family has not been named in any source located.
Third-party review history runs from December 2020 (Yelp mirror) to January 2026, and Google-mirrored ratings number about 149.54 An older Facebook presence (“Hamburguesas Los Compas,” page 1461048314107880) and a 2025 short-video feature by a local food account (“#kansascity #localbusiness”) both surface in searches, consistent with a business well into its second decade.6
There is no documented relationship to Los Compas Mexican Restaurant in Raytown, Missouri; “los compas” (“the buddies”) is a common restaurant name.
