Description

Meshuggah Bagels is Kansas City’s home for New York-style water bagels — certified kosher, hand-rolled, and boiled before baking in the traditional method. Pete Linde grew up in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey with family roots in immigrant Jewish baking; Janna Linde is from Independence, Missouri. Together they launched a wholesale bagel operation in November 2015 and opened their first retail location on West 39th Street in March 2016. The shop has since expanded to Power & Light, Overland Park, and Liberty. Fourteen bagel varieties run from plain and everything to serrano jalapeño and bialy; fourteen schmear varieties cover the spread from plain cream cheese to lox. Sandwiches include pastrami nova salmon, smoked nova salmon, and whitefish salad. All certified kosher by the Vaad HaKashruth of Greater Kansas City.

Tier classification

Tier 1 provisional — KC metro co-founder (Janna Linde from Independence, MO). Janna Linde is from Independence, Missouri — firmly within the Kansas City metro area.1 She co-founded Meshuggah Bagels alongside her husband Pete Linde (Woodcliff Lake, NJ). Under the KC Tier doctrine, a co-owner born and raised in the KC metro (Independence counts) qualifies as Tier 1 for the business. “ — press sources confirm Janna’s Independence, MO hometown and co-ownership role but do not explicitly detail her founding contribution vs. Pete’s.
