Teetasty Foods is a Nigerian restaurant and bar in a strip-mall storefront on Southwest Trafficway at 37th Street, opened in December 2023 by Oluwatobi Temitope “Chef Tee” Oni, a Lagos-born former tax-revenue supervisor and fraud analyst who built a Kansas City catering business from her home kitchen before going brick-and-mortar. The menu is the Nigerian canon — party jollof, egusi and efo riro with pounded yam, suya, pepper soup, ayamase (ofada) sauce, puff puff — with a few concessions (hand pies, fries, shawarma wraps) and a full bar stocked with Nigerian lagers and malt drinks.

Description

Teetasty occupies a small strip-mall space at 3711 Southwest Trafficway, on the west edge of Midtown just south of 37th Street; reviewers describe a small café room with live music some nights and limited lot parking.12 The restaurant’s own framing is that “food is not just about nourishment but also storytelling and connection,” and that it delivers “home cooked meals … made with fresh and the finest of ingredients to give you that authentic African taste.”3

The menu is unusually complete for Nigerian food in the metro.4 Starters are meat pies, beef samosas, spring rolls and puff puff (including a “Sweet Tooth” version with crushed Oreos); small plates run to suya-spiced wings, gizdodo (gizzards and plantain), beef suya and a $24.99 goat pepper soup. The “Traditional Soups” section — egusi, efo riro, okro, peanut-butter soup, bitter-leaf — is priced by protein (chicken, beef, fish, goat, assorted meat) and served with pounded yam, eba, a whole-wheat swallow or rice. Signature entrées include Nigerian party jollof, a “Taste of Naija” plate, basmati fried rice, suya lamb chops and white rice with the house ayamase (ofada) sauce of green peppers, beef, cow skin and tripe. Whole tilapia and red snapper come fried or flame-grilled with jollof and plantain. Weekends add abula, seafood okra and egusi, and a $64.99 “Tee’s Street Platter” for two to four. There is a vegan egusi and a vegan jollof plate, and an “Afro Fusion” jollof spaghetti.4

The bar list is short and pointed: Nigerian and Ghanaian-market lagers (Origin, Trophy), Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, Maltina and Vita Malt, a house-made zobo (hibiscus, ginger, clove, pineapple), a few standard cocktails and a bottle list.5 Chef Tee has said the menu’s hand pies and fries are the compromises she made “to bring Nigerian food to the midwestern masses,” while holding “a hard line on the traditional Nigerian dishes,” down to crayfish and melon seed she sources from Nigeria.6

Ownership and history

Oluwatobi Temitope Oni — Chef Tee — worked as a revenue supervisor for the Lagos Internal Revenue Service before immigrating to the United States roughly seven years before 2025, moving for marriage and family.6 She kept a professional career in anti-money-laundering and fraud analysis while cooking on the side; friends-and-family cooking became a catering business, weddings and parties, until customers kept asking for smaller portions and she decided to consolidate her operations under one roof.6 She told The Pitch she has been in the food industry twelve to thirteen years, beginning with catering in Nigeria, and that the name comes from her nickname — people would say “T, that’s tasty!”67 Her earliest cooking memories are of a grandmother and mother who balanced traditional and modernized cooking; she is a mother of two.6

KC Daily reported the restaurant open on December 5, 2023 — “opened last Friday,” which places the opening on December 1, 2023 — describing a West African menu of jollof, samosas, shawarma and the soups egusi, ogbono and efo riro, and identifying the owner as “Oluwatobi Temitope Adeleke” (the Pitch, fourteen months later, uses “Oni”; the discrepancy is unresolved).76 The Pitch’s February 2025 “Mise en Place” profile records that her auditing background runs the back office — HR, bookkeeping, taxes, financial tracking — and that her industry cause is food-waste reduction and repurposing surplus food for the community.6 The catering arm continues alongside the restaurant, with a tray-priced menu on the site.8
