Teetasty Foods is Kansas City’s only dedicated Nigerian restaurant — a brick-and-mortar expansion of the catering business Chef Tee ran for 12-plus years, first in Nigeria and then informally in KC after she arrived around 2018–2019. Oluwatobi Temitope Oni grew up in Lagos, where she spent years as a revenue supervisor at the Lagos Internal Revenue Service before turning to food full time. In the United States she worked in anti-money laundering and fraud analysis before finally walking away from finance to cook. The name came from how people always responded to her food: “T, that’s tasty.” The menu centers on Nigerian standards — jollof rice made with long-grain rice, tomatoes, chilies, and house spice blends; gizdodo (crispy gizzard with ripe plantain); suya (grilled spiced meat skewers); catfish pepper soup; and puff puff, the West African fried dough, served here with vanilla ice cream. Hand pies and seasoned fries were added to meet Midwestern customers where they are. Crayfish is sourced directly from Nigeria. Teetasty has also participated in KC Restaurant Week.
