Cascone’s Italian Restaurant is a four-generation Sicilian family dynasty in Kansas City’s Northland — open since May 1954, currently run by Jimmy, Frank, and Chef Victor Cascone. The street in front of the restaurant is officially Honorary Cascone’s Way. 72 years and counting.
Description
Cascone’s Italian Restaurant has been feeding Kansas City since May 1954 — a run of 72 years that makes it one of the longest continuously operating family-owned restaurants in the metro. The founding Cascone family came from Ragusa, on the southern coast of Sicily, and established their first KC location in a roadhouse setting, expanding in 1957 and again when they built a full-service restaurant in 1980. Today, the third and fourth generations run the show: Jimmy Cascone manages the dining room, his brother Frank and sister Lu work the floor, and Chef Victor Cascone runs the kitchen. All three can be found at the restaurant daily. The city of Kansas City officially named the street in front of the restaurant Honorary Cascone’s Way in celebration of the 70th anniversary. A second, separately operated branch called Johnny Cascone’s also operates in the KC metro. The Italian food is in the Sicilian tradition — hearty, red-sauced, family-recipe-driven — with the motto Sempre Famiglia (Family Forever) baked into every generation.
Tier classification
Tier 1 provisional — 4-generation KC family. The Cascone family has been in Kansas City since 1954 — 72 years. The current operators (Jimmy, Frank, Lu, Victor Cascone) are at minimum the third or fourth generation of a KC-rooted family. Families with 70+ years in KC are KC-born/raised for all practical purposes; the current operators almost certainly were born and grew up here. “ — no press source explicitly confirms the current operators were born in the KC metro vs. born in Sicily and brought over as young children.
